As a young girl there was so much emphasis on my hair, which made me conscious as I grew older. This collection is not only a celebration for myself but also for my daughter. It shines a light on the realm of my identity, my childhood memories and what it means to evolve as a woman. The collection shows the beauty, versatility, and significance of hair in black culture. It also highlights the striking use of materials such as zippers in a way that they are strong, subtle but beautiful. For thousands of years, hair bands, ribbons, bows, hairpins, combs, barrettes, beads, threads, sticks, and other various materials have been used in the hair for both aesthetic and cultural value to express identity.
